Summer Challenge Week 5: Exercise Anywhere

It’s Week 5 of 8 of the 8-week Summer Challenge by @lornavanderhaeghehealth . We’re over halfway there!

With the beautiful summertime weather, there are endless opportunities to exercise.

AT WORK?

  • Conduct ‘walking meetings’ by walking outside while discussing the day ahead.
  • Throw in a wall-sit at lunch to activate your leg muscles.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator!

TAKING THE KIDS TO THE PARK?

  • Join in on the fun! Play soccer, skipping rope, or even tossing a ball around can be a great way to combine family time and exercise.

I continued to enjoy my daily walks as well as trying to fit in as many opportunities to standup paddle board (SUP) as I could. SUP is is a new interest of mine, and one that I share with my husband. I enjoy being on the water; the exercise that we get; as well as being able to enjoy our time together in the fresh air. We just spent the weekend in Algonquin Park doing SUP and had a blast!

Summer Challenge Week 4: Prioritize your Mental health and Energize your Brain

Energize your cells with CoQ10 and Carnitine (found in CALA-Q Plus)

These natural ingredients help you feel energized without relying on caffeine. Coenzyme Q10 is found in almost every cell in the body and is often called the “Spark of Life” because it provides powerful energy.

This not only promotes good mental health but also boosts your energy so you can get out and do things to further improve mood and wellness.

Cultivate a daily meditation practice starting with just 3 minutes a day!

I enjoy walking for my mental health and so, this week, I continued to incorporate a walk into my daily routine. I also added some earthing (see below) for a few minutes when I had the chance.

What is Earthing?

8 week challenge, week 4 - mental health, earthing

Earthing, also known as grounding, is based on research that demonstrate that connecting to the Earth’s electrical energy promotes physical well-being. The act of Earthing refers to a physical connection between the electrical frequencies of the human body with that of Earth’s (think barefoot in the grass, or at the beach). Just like the sun constantly provides us with energy and vitamins, the earth too is a source of subtle energy that contributes to optimum health.

Earthing can be achieved in a number of ways: standing, sitting, lying or walking with direct skin contact with the ground is the easiest.

Summer Challenge Week 3: Cut Your Sugar Intake

How’s your 8-week challenge going? Go look at our first two healthy habits on our page if you missed them.

Now, for healthy habit number three:
Cut back on your sugar intake
.
Unbalanced glucose and insulin can cause your body to store fat, which none of us desire🙅🏼‍♀️. It’s important to manage the two, as it can affect other systems like the brain, cardiovascular system, and skin. Insulin levels go up with stress, overeating, alcohol and sugar consumption. For this reason, it’s important to cut back on sugar consumption at the same time as balancing insulin.

If you have belly fat and are over 45 years, start by regulating your insulin with GLUCOsmart. Even if you’re not over 45, and do not have extra belly fat, cutting back on processed sugar will still promote overall wellness.

This week is going great! I thought it was going to be the most challenging as I love my daily dose of chocolate coconut covered almonds:) I decided to write down my goals and tasks for the week. Not only did it help remind me, and keep me accountable, of the Habits I’d adopted so far, but I was able to check in with myself each day. I even allowed myself my snack once this week!

Summer Challenge Week 2: Drink More Water

60% of your body is made of water…and no, that doesn’t include coffee, juice or pop!

  • None of your organs can function without water including your kidney, brain, heart, muscles and more.
  • Sweating depletes water so staying hydrated is especially important in the summer.
  • SHAPEsmart is a deliciously flavoured (lemon iced tea) option to hydrate conveniently.
  • Not only does SHAPEsmart make drinking water easy, but it also benefits your body. Chlorogenic acid has been studied for its powerful anti-aging properties as well as it’s ability to kickstart your body’s fat burning process.

To ensure that I drank enough water, I keep a bottle around me throughout the day and add flavoured collagen to make it tastier. The one downside was that I was urinating frequently. I added a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt to each bottle to ensure I was absorbing the water into my cells and that helped reduce my bathroom visits:)

Summer Challenge Week 1: Eat Protein for Breakfast

Week 1: Eat Protein for Breakfast

Protein revs the metabolism and kickstarts your organ systems while also feeding your thyroid.

  • Try incorporating whey protein into your breakfast as opposed to eggs. Whey protein is highly bioavailable, concentrated, convenient and delicious.
  • PROTEINsmart contains whey protein along with an anti-aging fat called CLA. CLA supports fat loss and lean muscle growth.
  • BEAUTYsmart is a great option for those looking for a boost in collagen in addition to whey protein. Collagen is great for muscles, tendons, joints and skin.
  • For those looking to benefit from whey protein, CLA AND collagen- switch between BEAUTYsmart and PROTEINsmart every other day!

Notes from our Nutritionist

Dandelion Foods’ own nutritionist, Morgan, has accepted the 8-week Summer Challenge and is providing updates on how she’s finding it. Here’s her notes from Week 1.

I started the chocolate ProteinSMART with CLA with some spinach and frozen blueberries for breakfast. I just mix mine with water and a splash of coconut water. Love it. I am going to add in a second serving during the day to increase my protein.

Want some new ways to get your protein?

  • Use vanilla PROTEINsmart to make a PINA COLADA, or STRAWBERRY DAQUIRI (without the alcohol)
  • Add the BEAUTYsmart to your coffee or Matcha green tea for a vanilla latte – plus you get the benefit of collagen!
  • Make protein popsicles with coconut milk and PROTEINsmart or BEAUTYsmart – put them in the freezer for a protein fueled mid afternoon snack that the kids will like it too!
  • Try adding your morning PROTEINsmart to plain Greek yogurt! Yogurt has additional protein as well as a natural probiotic bacteria. Plus, it tastes like you’re having desert for breakfast (tastes like cheesecake!)
